Shoes

I know it's an old joke, but I'm going to tell it anyway. I had this friend back in high school, a real quiet kind of guy. About the least outspoken a person could be, in fact. And one day, I was really annoyed at someone else and just sort of venting my frustration with my friend. He waits for me to finish, pauses, and then says:

"You know, if you're going to criticize somebody you should at least walk a mile in their shoes. That way, if they get mad at you, you're a mile away, and you've got their shoes."

In hindsight I realize it's not really that inspired, and in fact is pretty cliche. But at the time it was riotously funny.
